Toytastic Toy Sale  - Please help us to Help The Phillipines

We are raising money for the Phillipines. There was a huge storm and we would like to raise money for them by collecting toys to sell at school.

Ten thousand people were killed. Many of them do not have food, water or a house to live in. We have decided that we are going to do a toy sale to raise money for them.

So it is going to be on Thursday 28th November.  Please bring lots and lots of toys that we can sell. It is going to be toytastic!  Pease bring some money in to buy some toys on this day.

Do YOU have any toys or games at home that you don’t play with anymore? Please bring them in as soon as possible. Keep them in your classroom and straight after morning bell, one of our Toytastic Toy Team members will collect them.

You can bring dolls, stuffed toys, board games, robotic toys, anything in good condition. No broken toys, books, technology please.

We hope that with your help, we can raise enough money to help the Phillipines to rebuild their lives. Thanks SO much....

SEE YOU THERE!  Rose, Tatum, Liam, Taya and Christina.

Get Ready For Our Walkie-Talkie Walkathon 13 Setpember

Dear Parents

We have exciting news! On Friday13 September we will be having a school walkathon. This will entail the school walking in classes around Shakespeare Park and our local area. We have called it the ‘Walkie Talkie Walkathon’ and this year we are raising funds for our library.

We are also trying something a little different. Rather than just walking around a fixed course, there will be a series of challenges and at each challenge, classes will have to take a photograph. The aim is to upload the pictures straight to class Yammer accounts so you can track a classes progress during the day.

We are keen for you to get as many sponsors as you can for this important cause from now until the walk (Sept 13). You can do this by filling out the enclosed sponsorship form or by going online to...
The beauty of online sponsorship is that it is easy and you can call on friends and family that are further away. We will also email this link and have it on class Yammer accounts.

Room 14 are currently designed the days special challenges and we think it will be a lot of fun. So, please get behind us this year. If you are free on the 13th please join us for the fun!

Yours sincerely
Mr Walkie, Mr Talkie and Room 14

Homestay Thank you

Thank you so much to all the families that put up their hands to host two Japanese girls that will spend time at our school at the end of August. I was overwhelmed with your readiness to help out and invite a young girl to be part of your families for two weeks.

Very quickly I found myself in the situation of having to turn down people, because we found two homestay families. If that has happened to you, I hope you are not disappointed and I would love to match you up with an international student in the future, if you are still interested. In any case I am keeping you in mind in case I need further backup.

You Gulf Harbour people are simply lovely!

Thank you again from Dagmar Goodall and Gulf Harbour School!

Wheels Days at GHS

With the warmer weather just around the corner why not encourage your son or daughter to scooter or skateboard to school. At lunchtime they'll get the chance to ride around the courts and burn off some energy, have fun and get fit at the same time. Helmets are compulsory, but safety pads are optional. At GHS we are keen to promote Green ways to travel to school. Any questions, pop in to Room 11 and talk to Mr Widdowson.

GHS Cross Country - Thursday 15th August, 2013

We are excited to announce that on Thursday 15th August, (Tuesday 20th saving day), Gulf Harbour School will be holding their annual Cross Country day.  This is an exciting day where students participate in their year groups in a cross country race at Shakespear Park.  All students have been training hard for this day during school time and we look forward to seeing the benefits of our students getting fitter.

An up to date programme of the day will be posted on the website. We are asking that all children be involved and students will need a note should they be unable to participate.  We are asking students to wear sports shoes and a tee-shirt the same colour as their school team (or PE gear if no colour).  We will be having team points running through-out the day and many opportunities will be given for students to earn these points and to get their names into a lucky dip sponsorship prize.

The first few students home in year 5-8 will be chosen to represent our school at the Hibiscus Cross Country held later in August.  We look forward to building this team and preparing our top students for this event.
Students will need to be at school by 8:55 on the day of cross country and will be able to wear their running kit to school.

Please ensure they have a warm change of clothes to keep them warm when they are not participating or after their events.  Students will also need plenty of water and healthy snacks to keep them going.  We will have some food and drink for sale (sausages, and a limited supply of food and drink) down at the park and more information on this will follow.

We are asking for parents of children in the Year 0 - 2 levels to please help us in assisting these students with transport to and from the event.  Notes will be going home with these students.

Year 0 - 2 students will complete a 1000m run, Year 3 1200m race, year 4 and 5 will run the distance of 1.6km, while year’s 6-8 will cover a 3.2km distance.  The approximate times for events are on the reverse side of this sheet.

Only Year 0-2 will be transported to the venue in private cars. If you are able to support with transport please email or contact your child’s teacher. If you wish for your child not to be transported by private car (all will be wearing safety belts), please inform your child’s teacher.
We are requiring some parental help to ensure that our day goes smoothly.  Please email Mark Barrow m.barrow@ghs.school.nz if you are able to assist us in some way on this day.
Thank you
