Kiara's Angel Walk & Funday 4th March



The Family Funday (10am – 2pm Free Entry, Western Reserve)
Bring the whole family to a great day out for a good cause.
Enjoy Kiara's Angel Walk and finish up at the Family Funday which includes entertainment, children's rides, food stalls, street performers, craft stalls and a fun carnival atmosphere. 

The Angel Walk begins 8.45am, near Pohutukawa Reserve Orewa. 
A 7km walk around the Te Ara Tahuna Orewa estuary walkway.

This event is inspired by the story of Kiara Morgan who you may have heard about. She was a beautiful little girl from Orewa who was first diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 4 months old and who tragically lost her battle with cancer in October 2011 just before her 5th birthday.
This event will be held on Sunday 4th March which is also International Children's Day and Child Cancer Appeal Month.

Invoices / Statements

Currently we are invoicing you for the following items:

Stationery (issued to students) - $40.00. Please pay by 29th February 2012
Mathletics (years 1 - 8) - $25.00
School Donation (optional) incentive for paying early - $150.00 if paid by 31st March 2012

Please note years 3, 4, & 5 camps will be invoiced this term. 
All trips/activities need to be paid for prior to taking place.

Thank you to those who have already paid their account. Invoices/Statements will be sent to you by the end of this week.

School Start Date & Term Dates for 2012

School starts back for 2012 on Tuesday 7th February.
Remember all stationery will be issued to students in the class and each child will be invoiced for $40.00.  This needs to please be paid within the first week of returning to school.

Term Dates for 2012
Term 1 - 7th February - 5th April
Term 2 - 23rd April - 29th June
Term 3 - 16th July - 28th September
Term 4 - 15th October - TBA (approx 20th December)

The school office and uniform shop will be open for new enrolments and purchasing of uniform on Thursday 2nd February 9.00am - 3.00pm.

2012 Stationery - The New Way


This year we are purchasing all school stationery for you, the opportunity of buying our stationery in bulk has helped us secure a great price offer.

We have spent considerable time working firstly with our teachers to make sure that the items they need are the right ones for their class and your children. We sent for quotes to three major stationery suppliers and have been offered competitive discounts of 50% on most of our stationery and about 30% on other items.

The cost is $40.00 per student ($10.00 per term). We will be debiting your account at the start of next year. Their school exercise books will be available first week back to take home and cover if needed.

Mobile Dental Unit

The Mobile Dental Unit currently situated at our school will be closed from Friday 16th December, reopening Monday 9th January.

All children will be sent appointments for either during the holiday period or will be seen when school returns on 7th February 2012.

Friday 9th December at school in Rooms 8,9&10. Yrs 1-2 4:00 - 5:30pm, Yrs 3-4 6:00 - 7:30pm
Tickets $5.00 order from the office or door sales available. Please come dressed up in the theme, prize for best creative costume. There are some fun beach carnival games to play. Bring some extra money for candy floss, mini hot dogs, pizza etc.

Music Lessons in 2012

Please remember to register your child with Creative Music Core (CMC) for all music tuition in 2012 as
R & B Music will no longer be taking lessons at our school. Please check your childs bag for a registration form going home today.  This is not a notification for money, just registration to get an idea of numbers.  No money needs to be paid until lessons start next year. Please complete and return to the box provided at the school office.

Hospice Fashion Collection 2011

Hospice Shops would like you to give up your designer and well-known label clothes and accessories for the Hospice Fashion Collection 2011.  Please support them - go to your wardrobe and it if looks cool, give it up this week.  Even if its just one item you'll be making a difference.

We have specially printed bags available from reception or drop your clothing off and we will bag it for you.  Hospice will collect from the school next week.

Children's Communication Workshops

Next term we will be running a series of workshops aound children's communication development.  These workshops will be developed and delivered by a Speech-Language Therapist, Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) and experienced classroom teacher.

Details of the workshop:
Each Wednesday 2nd November to 7th December (weekly)
9.30am - 12.00noon (morning tea provided)

Topics covered: Speech, Language and Phonological Awareness

Travelwise launch Friday 4 November - Be there!

We would love to see as many parents as possible come to our Travelwise launch and celebrate Gulf Harbour School officially becoming a Travelwise
School.  It is just over a year since we began our Travelwise journey and now we are ready to receive our Bronze Award.  Be part of our journey to make travel to school safer and more sustainable.

Vote for our 'Doodle for Google' finalists!!

Earlier this year Google NZ asked kids across NZ to design their own Google image (Doodle) with the theme "My wish for NZ".  The winner will have their image displayed on the Google home page for one day and will win a laptop and whiteboard for their school.

Olivia entered the Google for Doodle competition at her school and has been selected as 1 of the top 4 finalists for years 1-3 in NZ.  Her doodle is titled 'Kiwiana Culture' and is the bottom left Doodle.  Vote here http://www.google.co.nz/doodle4google/vote.html
