Kiara's Angel Walk
Kiara’s Angel Walk is now in its third year and its popularity as a fun community event has encouraged organisers to ensure it becomes a regular feature in the Summer calendar. The event is held on National Children’s Day and fundraises for The Child Cancer Foundation.
Kiara’s Angel Walk begins with a walk around the beautiful Te Ara Tahuna, Orewa Estuary Walkway, concluding with a Family Funday at the Western Reserve, Orewa.
When: 9am Sunday, 2nd March 2014.
Where: Te Ara Tahuna Estuary Walkway, Orewa.
Course: Walk or cycle the 2km or 7km course.
Theme: Dress up, have fun and join the colourful procession of purple, wings, butterflies and rainbows.
Every year, before the walk begins, we release hundreds of lilies into the Orewa Estuary as a symbol of remembrance. It is a beautiful site to watch them float out over the water as we make our way along the walkway. The release is in honour of all the children who are diagnosed with cancer each year, the angels who walk amongst us and also a tribute to the memory of angels who have passed.
The wider community and all walkers are invited to join in the Family Funday at Western Reserve, bring the family and enjoy some fabulous entertainment, children’s rides, food stalls and fun atmosphere!
The event aims to provide the community with a spectacular day out with the emphasis on fun for the whole family on National Children’s Day.
We encourage all participants young and old to have some fun and dress up for the event. The themes are purple, butterflies and rainbows (all Kiara's favourite things) so get your work colleagues, family and friends together and get creative!
The walk starts at 9am from Pohutukawa Reserve, Red Beach.
