Wacky Wednesday Wheels Day - 27th August 2014

WHATS ON THIS WEEK?

Wednesday 27th August is Wacky Wheels Wednesday

Kids can come dressed in mufti - as wacky as they wish - and bring some wheels with them - bikes, skateboards, heelies, scooters and of course they will need helmets. They can choose to "whackify" their wheels, their helmet or what they are wearing.

Instead of our usual gold coin donation we are asking for a bottle or can of soft drink ( these will be used as prizes in the "Human Bungee" game) - if they are bringing a can or small bottle then one per child or if it's a big bottle then one per family will be appreciated.  Please ensure it hasn't past it's use-by-date!

Back To School message for school newsletter

As part of our Travelwise programme we are participating in Auckland Transport’s Back To School campaign this term. We want to remind all parents to take care when driving around our school and to pass this message on to friends and family.
Stick to the speed limit when driving past our school and remember even small increases over the speed limit can be the difference between life and death.  We can all do our bit to keep our kids safe as they travel on the roads around our school.
We would like to highlight to you that the speed limit when passing a stationary school bus is 20km/hr.  This limit is in place to protect drivers and children in and around school buses.  School bus incidents happen on both high and lower speed roads. But the faster a vehicle is travelling, the more likely a child will be killed if hit.
Expect the unexpected – Drivers need to be able to stop should a child run across the road without looking.  If you are collecting a child from a roadside bus stop or on the road outside school please make sure you park in a safe place and never call your child across the road.

Friday Mufti Day to Support Kiara Angel Walk - Friday 28th February

Rainbow themed Mufti Day - Friday 28th February in support of Kiara's Angel Walk
Dress up in your favourite rainbow colours and please bring along a gold coin donation.

See details of the Sunday walk below. Please support it.

Kiara's Angel Walk
Kiara’s Angel Walk is now in its third year and its popularity as a fun community event has encouraged organisers to ensure it becomes a regular feature in the Summer calendar. The event is held on National Children’s Day and fundraises for The Child Cancer Foundation.
Kiara’s Angel Walk begins with a walk around the beautiful Te Ara Tahuna, Orewa Estuary Walkway, concluding with a Family Funday at the Western Reserve, Orewa.

When: 9am Sunday, 2nd March 2014.
Where: Te Ara Tahuna Estuary Walkway, Orewa.
Course: Walk or cycle the 2km or 7km course.
Theme: Dress up, have fun and join the colourful procession of purple, wings, butterflies and rainbows.

Every year, before the walk begins, we release hundreds of lilies into the Orewa Estuary as a symbol of remembrance. It is a beautiful site to watch them float out over the water as we make our way along the walkway. The release is in honour of all the children who are diagnosed with cancer each year, the angels who walk amongst us and also a tribute to the memory of angels who have passed.
The wider community and all walkers are invited to join in the Family Funday at Western Reserve, bring the family and enjoy some fabulous entertainment, children’s rides, food stalls and fun atmosphere!
The event aims to provide the community with a spectacular day out with the emphasis on fun for the whole family on National Children’s Day.
We encourage all participants young and old to have some fun and dress up for the event. The themes are purple, butterflies and rainbows (all Kiara's favourite things) so get your work colleagues, family and friends together and get creative!
The walk starts at 9am from Pohutukawa Reserve, Red Beach.

Milk at Gulf Harbour School

MILK FOR SCHOOLS is starting in our school next week 17th February.

From Monday to Thursday every week, your child will receive chilled milk supplied by Fonterra.
Milk will be delivered to your child's class and consumed on site.  There is a recycling programme as part of this, also provided by Fonterra.

Should you not wish your child to receive this milk, please inform your child's teacher.

We see this as a very positive initiative for the child of New Zealand.
