Room 28 in Top 50 Mathletics


My class made it onto the Top 50 Classes on Mathletics this morning. We made it as a goal for our class to try and get on there so set your class that goal too. They are so excited.

Great Work on Puppet Pals by ESOL Students

Room 28 have been working hard to rise awareness about the problem shark finning. They sent their art work to the New Zealand Shark Alliance.

Power of the Word Festival - Come along!



The Power of Words Festival: 
 A Community Event that will Engage, Enrage and Entertain You
July 3rd  Open 6.00 - 8.00pm   Gulf Harbour School
A walk-through event with static and moving displays, live performances, entertainment and interactive activities. Snacks and drinks available.

We are looking for some kind parents to support us by helping on the evening for an hour. Jobs will include things such as selling food and manning interactive activities.  If you can help please phone 4280202 or e-mail office@ghs.school.nz and leave a message with Bronwyn in the office.

We Are Looking For Homestay Families


 
Are you interested in hosting international students for our school?
 

We have two international groups visiting Gulf Harbour School this autumn and winter.
 

We are excited to welcome a group of Chinese students from Ningbo Beilun Huashan Primary School from July 7th to July 15th. The children will have to be dropped off for normal school hours to attend their program which includes attendance of our school. Double placement of the children is possible and the homestay fee will be $ 220.00 per week per student. The age of the students has to be confirmed.

 
We are also delighted to welcome Ritsumeikan Junior High School back at Gulf Harbour. The fourteen to fifteen year old Japanese students will stay from August 20th  to September 4th  and attend our school and their sight seeing program within school hours. Please, check whether you could offer the following set up:

-        There is no other Japanese student living with you

-        The student has her/ his own bedroom for the time of the stay

-        You have a child living with you in your household

 
The homestay fee is $ 220.00 per week.

Stu Duval Storytelling in the Stadium (Room 16) Thursday 23rd May

We are excited to let you know that Stu Duval, master storyteller will be performing for Gulf Harbour School this Thursday 23rd May.  He will engage and entertain classes with the power of his words!

"His unique performances have captivated students and staff in schools across the nation.  Combining his skills in Visual Art, Oral Storytelling and Drama, Stu weaves his original tales into a one-hour-one-man show, creating endearing characters full of passion, pathos and side-splitting humour.  You will weep with laughter and cry with joy!"

This live performance will cost $4.00 per student and will be invoiced on your accounts. If you do not wish your child to attend please contact the office by Wednesday 22nd May.  This is great value and a show not to be missed!

Colgate Carton Collection

Gulf Harbour School has entered the Colgate Carton race competition.

This is where we, as a school can win prizes simply by collecting Colgate Cartons.  The more Colgate Cartons we collect the more prizes we can win. 

Please bring empty cartons into school and put into the bins located at both offices (student and main office). Spread the word, ask your neighbours and get on board in helping our school!

APRIL SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAMME

Baking a Difference for Red Puppy Bikkie Day

Millie Wilton and Olivia de Lautour from Room 22, are organising this fundraiser as a homework task.  Our class is helping out by cooking biscuits for them. 

Room 22 are getting out their mixing bowls, popping on their aprons and whipping up some puppy-shaped biscuits for the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind (RNZFB) Red Puppy Bikkie Day.

Red Puppy Bikkie Day, now in its third year, is part of the RNZFB’s annual Red Puppy Appeal to raise funds to support RNZFB guide dogs.

Millie and Olivia will be selling puppy-shaped biscuit during morning tea break, outside the Food Tech Room on Thursday the 4th, 11th and 18th of April.  The cost of each cookie will be $2.00.

If there was one night, one meeting, one chance I could get to have our parents hear an educationalist explaining the 'why and what' behind what we do at Gulf Harbour, then this meeting with Lane Clark would be it. Due to many time frame challenges occuring around the BOT Election dates, communicated to our parents in the 1st March newsletter, we have had to change the dates to the following:

Nominations called:  2nd May  (was 15th March)
Nominations close:   16th May  (was 29th March)
Voting Papers circulated:   21st May  (was 3rd April)
Election day:   30th May  (was 12th April)
Board takes office:   6th June 2013

Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) Webpage Update

Please note that we have updated our school webpage about IT and mobile devices. There, you will see our postion on encouraging mobile devices and particularly Apple products. Note too that students can bring other devices but will need to use them more independently as teachers are familiar with Apple devices.
